Marte Heilemann did it again! Only a baby break could stop her winning the Alpen-Trail last season.
Marte competed in this year's Alpen - Trail sled dog Alpine stage race also again two former Pirena Champions (due to lack of snow, Pirena will be held later, if). The Pirena Champs ended at place two and six.
Surprising results for
Helmut Peer. Austria's routine musher could win the last two stages at Sexten, both starting with the spectacular massstart in the valley. Peer was the shooting star at the Alpen - Trail 2011 and ended up at place three.
"Real" Alpentrailers
Lutz Binzer and
Volkmar Stuber could be found at place 4 and 5.
In the six - dogs - class the Norwegian musher
Bjørn Lyng Pedersen was dominating the race from the beginning and had an advantage of 48 minutes against the German mushers
Sylvia Ulrich and 52:30 minutes against
Thorsten Ballas.
Norwegian mushers are in good shape this season. We'll see some more this winter at several IFSS Sled Dog World Championships in their home country (sprint - mid distance - long distance).
Alpen-Trail - Multi Champion
Heini Winter (Augsburg) scratched at the last stage in Sexten.
Hopefully his guardian angel kept an eye on him!We also would like to wish
Erwin Föger best recovery. The Tyrolean Alpen - Trail musher had to leave the race because of illness.
Again the Alpen-Trail did show, why it's called the "most beautiful sled dog race in the Alpes"! Trails very good and sun was shining - as (almost) each year ...
And 2012? SAME PROCEDERE AS LAST YEAR! Good luck!
